About the Client

Port of Duqm is located in the Al Wusta region of Central Oman and hosts a number of cargo shipments, vessels, marine life and fishery storage and industries. It stretches up to 2.2 kilometers and harbors more than 1,148 vessels being served. Around 70% of Oman’s fishery originates from this area, and the port acts as a medium to store and transport the same to various regions of Oman and other countries. The port generates millions in revenue and is responsible for hundreds of employees on the ground.

The Challenge

Kanjurmarg dumping yardprocesses 80% of Mumbai city’s waste,with around 3000 tonnes of solid waste collected daily.Not only the stench fromthe landfill is painstakingly foul and difficult tobear,but it has also started creating health problems to the residents.People residing near Vikhroli and Bhandup have been reported to suffer nausea and vomiting due to the smell.
Recently,the government has started paying attention to this problem and had started pressurizing the Municipal Corporation to continuously monitor the air quality in the vicinity and follow the pollution standards. Thus, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)needed to install Continuous Air Quality Monitoring Station in the periphery of the dumping site.

The Solution

After a detailed site survey, Oizom proposed to install Polludrone and Odosense units - an Air Quality Solution combined with Odour Monitoring to monitor both the particulate matter and odorful emissions from the dumpyard.
Oizom installed Polludrone Smart at the dumpyard to measure PM2.5 PM10, Temperature and Humidity. Oizom Odosense is the most advanced e-nose developed to monitor CO, NO2, NH3, H2S, SO2, VOC, CH2O, and CH4. These units were installed strategically such that the whole dumpyard is covered for monitoring.
Oizom Terminal was set up for the admins to view and analyze the data. This cloud-based application helps visualize AQI data hourly/monthly in a comprehensible manner. The admins can define intervals for the automatic report generation and get real-time alerts.

The Result

Peripheral monitoring within a 5-kilometer range of Kanjurmarg dump yard site helped the officials to identify the exact sources of odour emissions. Data accumulated from Oizom devices has enabled them to take data-driven actions to control and mitigate the issue of odours by taking steps like spraying odour neutralizers, activating bioreactors, and deploying odour suppressants.
